Kenneth Wood

1912-2008

Street scene in a French Harbour

Ref: 835

Signed and dated l.r.: Kenneth Wood/46

Watercolour, 12 by 22 ins (30 by 56 cm)

The 1940s accounts for much of Wood’s best painting, which was infused, as here, with strong continental influences including that of Chagall and the German Expressionists. Later he successfully combined painting with the life of an architect and designer. Alongside his work in public collections, a number of his pictures formed part of significant private collections including that of the great Victorian picture collectors Sir David and Lady Scott  (see Sotheby’s London, A Great British Collection: Sir David and Lady Scott, November 2008, lots 226 & 227).
